EUROPEAN ALLIANCE FOR RAILWAY CORRIDORS DEVELOPMENT AND TRANS-EUROPEAN TRANSPORT NETWORKS TEN-T TO STRUCTURE THE IBERIAN PENINSULA AND ITS CONNECTION WITH THE REST OF EUROPE

This statement of interest aims the constitution of a European Association to foster the required activities and studies for realizing the railway and transport corridors realization, both existing as well as future, for the structuring and territorial integration, and the energy transition, of Iberian Peninsula.
CENTRAL CORRIDOR
It connects the ports of Algeciras, Bobadilla-Madrid-Zaragoza, belonging to the Atlantic and Mediterranean Corridors, from Andalucia to Aragon, through the center of the Peninsula, and from Zaragoza to the Catalan and Basque Ports.
CANTABRIC-MEDITERRANEAN CORRIDOR
The Cantabric-Mediterranean Corridor (Sagunto-Teruel-Zaragoza-Bilbao) connects the Atlantic and Mediterranean Corridors from Valencia to Basque Country and Cantabria through Aragon, La Rioja and Navarra.
ATLANTIC CORRIDOR
It connects and structures the North and Center of Portugal, Galicia and Asturias, through Castilla and Leon, to the Basque Country and the Ebro Valley.
IBERIAN SOUTHWEST CORRIDOR
It connects the South of Portugal and Extremadura, through Castilla-La Mancha to the Central Corridor..

Declaration of Interest

The institutions, bodies, entities, companies and individuals, signatories of this declaration show interest in:

1. Constitution

To constitute a Multisectoral Alliance amongst the Entities and individuals willing to participate in the integration of all of the Civil Society for the Study, Valuation and Execution of freight railway corridors connecting the main Ports and Logistics Platforms in Iberian Peninsula from the South to the Center and North of Europe.

2. Development

To develop natural corridors that cross high development potential regions of Iberian Peninsula (Inner Corridors), aiming the creation of business platforms able to generate economic, logistics and industrial activities, and contributing to the structuring and rebalancing of Iberian Peninsula for the development of low density, disperse population, and aged people territories through European Compensation Funds.

3. Achievement

To achieve the necessary Energy Transition and to support the aim of Spanish Government to fourfold Railway Freight Transportation in Iberian Peninsula as an strategic vision that makes, on one hand, necessary the development of Inner Corridors integrated in the Transeuropean Network, and, on the other, to the connection of French and Spanish railway networks through a Corridor crossing Aragonese Pyrenees.

4. Support

To support the development of Iberian Peninsula communications infrastructures upon the base of main natural Corridors structuring it, already included in the Trans-European Transportation Nework TEN-T, Railway Core Network:

  • The Central Corridor Algeciras-Bobadilla-Madrid-Zaragoza, shared by the Atlantic and Mediterranean Corridors, from  Andalucia to Aragon through the center of the Iberian Peninsula, and from Aragon to Catalan and Basque Ports.
  • The Cantabric-Mediterranean Sagunto-Teruel-Zaragoza-Bilbao, connecting and structuring the Mediterranean and Atlantic Corridors from Valencia to Basque Country and Cantabria through Aragon, Navarra and La Rioja.
  • The Atlantic Corridor, connecting and structuring areas from the North and Center of Portugal, Galicia and Asturias, through Castilla and Leon towards Basque Country and Ebro Valley.
  • The Iberian Southwest Corridor, connecting South of Portugal and Extremadura to the Central Corridor through Castilla – La Mancha.

5. Contribution

To contribute to the Project Definition and Execution of a Transportation High Capacity Axis from Ports and Logistics Platforms of Southern Europe and Northern Africa to France and North Sea, crossing the center of Iberian Peninsula and the Pyrenees through a New High Performance Corridor traversing Pyrenees from Zaragoza, as main logistics hub of Southern Europe, building a low altitude double Tunnel connecting to the railway between Toulouse, in Occitanie, with Bordeaux, in Nouvelle Aquitaine, to continue towards Paris and Northern Europe.

6. Fulfillment

To fulfill the Sustainable Developments Goals (SDG) adopted by UNO and EU.
The success will be for all the Civil Society in the territories where these Corridors go through, that become appealing areas for investors business developments, because of their politic and social stability, and as well for their dialog environment.
